Immersion

The world is other than we now think and see,
Our lives a deeper mystery than we dreamed.

Sri Aurobindo, "Savitri"
Book 2 "Book of the Travellers of the Worlds", Canto Five "The Godheads of Little Life"

It comes from my childhood.
When swimming in a pool, I used to hyperventilate, then blow out all the air from my lungs, and settle down cross-legged on the bottom of the pool. It was a magical feeling, a sense of being in another realm. With oxygen in the body, one can sit quite comfortably on the bottom, underwater, for a minute or two.
During that minute, you are in another realm, another space. It is dense; everything moves slowly.
You can see the outside world, but as through a prism, a lens.
All is silent, still. You are out of time, out of the world.
Nobody can interact with you -- life is going out "out there," but you are sitting silently, in this otherness.

David Hutchinson

On March 6, 2001 David wrote that moment from his life in a message sent to the Integral Yoga Forum . Immediately I have got the 'vision' which I have tried to show in the image above. It took me three days with many softwares till I find the right one.
David has given permission to me to quote from his posting and to give his email. He is also a poet and a brother on the path of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. If you click on his name, you have access to his personal website with photos, poems and articles.
He is too member of the board that animates the Sri Aurobindo Association of America and publishes the review "Collaboration".
You can write directly to him by clicking here.
