Sri Aurobindo has given up his body in an act of supreme unselfishness, renouncing the realisation in his body to hasten the hour of the collective realisation. Surely if the earth were more responsive, this would not have been necessary.
When I asked him to resuscitate he clearly answered:
I have left this body purposely. I will not take it back. I shall manifest again in the first supramental body built in the supramental way.
As soon as Sri Aurobindo withdrew from his body, what he had called the Mind of Light got realised in me.
The Supermind had descended long ago - very long ago - in the mind and even in the vital: it was working in the physical also but indirectly through these intermediaries. The question now was about the direct action of the Supermind in the physical. Sri Aurobindo said it could be possible only if the physical mind received the supramental light: the physical mind was the instrument for direct action upon the most material. This physical mind receiving the supramental light Sri Aurobindo called the Mind of Light.

You see, now my work has become easy. Formerly I used to go to Sri Aurobindo and discuss matters with him. Now he is in me, and whenever you ask any question, I just ask Sri Aurobindo and tell you his reply.

Sri Aurobindo whom I know and with whom I lived physically for thirty years. . . has not left me, not for a moment - for He is still with me, day and night, thinking through my brain, writing through my pen, speaking through my mouth and acting through my organising power.

Question: I asked myself a question about Sri Aurobindo. I wanted to know at what point he had arrived when he passed away - at what point of transformation? What difference in the work, for example, is there between what you are doing and what he was doing at that time?
He had gathered in his body a great amount of supramental force and as soon as he left.... You see, he was lying on his bed, I stood by his side, and in a way altogether concrete, - concrete with such a strong sensation as to make one think that it could be seen - all this supramental force that was in him passed from his body into mine. And I felt the rubbing of the passage. It was extraordinary - extraordinary. It was an extraordinary experience. For a long time, long time like that (gesture of passing of the Force into the Mother's body) I was standing beside his bed and that continued.
Almost a sensation - it was a material sensation.
For a long time.
That is all I know.
Question: But what I wanted to understand is at what point of the inner work, for example, the cleaning of the subconscient and all that, did it stand? What difference is there, say, between the work he had done at that time and the work to which you have come now? I mean to say, is the subconscient less subconscient or
Oh! yes, that, surely, surely.
Well, this is the mental way of looking at things. I do not have it any more.
Question: The difference is perhaps a difference in the general or collective intensity of this Power, of this Force - is it not so?
There is a difference in the power for action. He himself possesses more action, more power for action now than when in his body. Besides, it is for that that he left, because it was necessary to act in that way.
It is very concrete. His action has become very concrete. Evidently it is something which is not at all mental. It is from another region. But it is not ethereal nor. . . It is concrete. One could almost say that it is material.

Lord, this morning Thou hast given me the assurance that Thou wouldst stay with us until Thy work is achieved, not only as a consciousness which guides and illumines but also as a dynamic Presence in action. In unmistakable terms Thou hast promised that all of Thyself would remain here and not leave the earth atmosphere until earth is transformed. Grant that we may be worthy of this marvellous Presence and that henceforth everything in us be concentrated on the one will to be more and more perfectly consecrated to the fulfilment of Thy sublime Work.
The lack of receptivity of the earth and men is mostly responsible for the decision Sri Aurobindo has taken regarding his body. But one thing is certain: what has happened on the physical plane affects in no way the truth of his teaching. All that he has said is perfectly true and remains so. Time and the course of events will prove it abundantly.
To THEE who hast been the material envelope of our Master, to THEE our infinite gratitude. Before THEE who hast done so much for us, who hast worked, struggled, suffered, hoped, endured so much, before THEE who hast willed all, attempted all, prepared and achieved all for us, before THEE we bow down and implore that we may never forget, even for a moment, all we owe to THEE.
To grieve is an insult to Sri Aurobindo who is here with us, conscious and alive.
We must not be bewildered by appearances. Sri Aurobindo has not left us. Sri Aurobindo is here, as living and as present as ever and it is left to us to realise his work with all the sincerity, eagerness and concentration necessary.
Our Lord has sacrificed himself totally for us.... He was not compelled to leave his body, he chose to do so for reasons so sublime that they are beyond the reach of human mentality..
And when one cannot understand, the only thing to do is to keep a respectful silence.
Lord, we are upon earth to accomplish Thy work of transformation. It is our sole will, our sole preoccupation. Grant that it may be also our sole occupation and that all our actions may help us towards this goal.
The Master left his material form but his work continues. He left the body, obviously for the reason that only by so doing he could best consummate his work. His vision stands as the unfailing and infallible light and mankind and earth shall accomplish whatever he aimed at and worked for - the Supreme Consciousness he brought down into earth's sphere is there, continuing to guide and shape and achieve.
