How did I come to make the montage ?

The continuation

Description:

On this photo-montage you can see in the middle a BW-photo of the Samadhi of Sri Aurobindo and of the Mother in the Ashram at Pondicherry (Thanks to 'Collaboration' !). In oval forms superimposed above and left the photo of Sri Aurobindo, and above and right the photo of the Mother. Below the montage left Sri Aurobindo's signature scanned from the Mantra of the Supreme Mother (in the book "The Mother"), and right The Mother's signature scanned from a document in my possession from her own hand. Above the montage there is Sri Aurobindo's Gayatri-mantra printed with fonts which indicates the pronunciation of the transliteration from the Sanskrit as shown in the book "On Himself". The image has a border on the four sides.

The Story:

When I "received" the image in my head, on May 07, 1998 at 07:35 a.m. MET, just before going to work, the montage with the photos was very clear, but the environment was unprecise and I did not understand why I had to make this montage (or what for to do) and I felt that I had not yet all the materials to make it. I made notices of my "vision" and ... but please, read the story :

May 07, 1998 07:35 a.m. MET : I receive the image, clear center (Sri Aurobindo on the left side, The Mother on the right side, both above the samadhi), unclear surroundings. Notices and a drawing.

May 07, 1998 08: 09 p.m. MET : first attempts, but photos are in a square.

May 08, 1998 10:04 p.m MET : I find the good software to have the photos in ovals and surimposed but I still have no ideas of the surroundings.

May 11, 1998 = Indian nuclear tests !

May 12, 1998 10:05 a.m. MET : I receive through WorldMail the two books "On Himself" and "The Mother" of Sri Aurobindo that I had ordered at Amazon.com 3 weeks ago and I discover the Supreme Mother-Mantra in the one and the transliteration of Sri Aurobindo's Gayatri-Mantra in the other. I had noticed "scans" and "quote" on May 07; I begin to see how the montage works.

Between May 15 and May 21 I make tryings with diverse quotations and scanned images of mantras above and below. Nothing satisfies me, I feel something is wrong or incomplete. The signatures must be below, but the
rest ? And what is the rest ?

May 26, 1998 02:08 p.m. MET : suddenly, it is clear; it must be the Gayatri-mantra above. I try with several occidental fonts. Unsatisfying...

May 27, 1998 03:50 p.m. MET I feel I'm blessed : while visiting the website of the Divine Life Society of Sivananda Saraswati in Rishikesh I suddenly discover devanagari and transliteration fonts to download for free !!! (I have been seeking free devanagari fonts for two years on the Net !). Same day at 09:50 p.m. MET the montage seems to be finished and I make some prints of it.
Almost perfect, I feel, but something is still missing or wrong... And above all I don't know what for to do I should have to post it on Auroconf : there is no special darshan or any other event... !

May 28, 1998 : Pakistani nuclear tests ! (As I don't watch the news on the TV, I hear of it only the day after)

May 29, 1998 06:15 p.m. MET: Suddenly, on seeing again the montage I realise that my scan of Sri Aurobindo's signature has been cut off to the right. I correct it with a new scan and now I deeply feel that the montage is complete and efficient. I feel me relieved from my "duty".

I open the newspaper and I read about the Pakistani nuclear tests and everything becomes luminous : the montage is made in order to help keeping peace if enough people possess it on their screen, or print it out, or transmit it through the Internet around the World.
A kind of peace maker...

The continuation

In the night from the 24 to the 25 June 1999, Chandresh Patel wrote to me:

Cher Bernard,
Je pense que la photo du samadhi n'est pas correcte.
I believe it is imposed in reverse. The view from the side of the tree will not show the door in the background as is here in the photo-showcase.
Can you reverse the image of samadhi?

I already had a doubt, since one year that the montage has been made, but as I was feeling - and others with me - that the montage was efficient, and as nobody until now has said something about the samadhi itself on the picture, I had left it as you have seen it.
But I wanted to verify.
At first I verified on the page of the site of 'Collaboration' where I had taken the photo, the Cornell page, and I could see that I had made no mistake.

But Chandresh's intuition seemed me to be true...
Why?
At the time in May 1998 I made the montage, I have made a little drawing of my 'vision'. And on that drawing the samadhi was a parallelepiped with the shortest face on the right... I found my notice again in my archives and I verified it.
But at that time, as I had only that only one photo of the samadhi - with the shortest side on the left - I had said to me that I had perhaps drawn too quick my vision. But as I did not have that feeling of having drawn too quick, I did not understand till now!
Ah! mental versus intuition/vision!! I should have trusted rather myself than the photo or than my reasonings!
After that I spent some time in the night and re-made the montage.

And at the precise moment where I could see the new montage on my screen, I received a very strong feeling of certitude, because of the correctness. And I could feel that the new montage began to send much stronger the radiations of peace. My evaluation is 3 to 4 times stronger!
It was June 25, 1999 04:51 a.m. MET

But I still had doubts and I wanted to have a sign that the mistake had been corrected.
I sent the new montage to a few people, but I received no response!
And that evening, on June 26, 1999 11:00 p.m. MET, as I was looking after a quote in Georges van Vrekhem's book "Beyond the Human Species" (Paragon House editor), I suddenly noticed the last pages where many photographs are to be seen.
And among them the photo of the Samadhi! And Chandresh was right: the photo I used was inverted!

And today June 27, 1999 I have remade the pages on the site and I have posted the corrected versions.

If you have downloaded the precedent version, or if you have put it onto your website, please download the correct version now in JPG or GIF.

And many thanks to Chandresh!

Footnote1: MET = Middle European Time = GMT + 2

Footnote2:The text of Sri Aurobindo's Gayatri is: Tat savitur varam rupam jyotish parasya dhimahi, yannah satyena dipayet.
It means: Let us meditate on the most auspicious form of Savitri, on the Light of the Supreme which shall illumine us with the Truth (in Sri Aurobindo's translation)
It is to be found in Sri Aurobindo's own handwriting and in sanskrit in "On Himself" page 513.

Footnote3: On June 28, 1999 I have also made a Version for devotee (JPG and GIF) with The Mother on the left side and Sri Aurobindo on the right side. That version does NOT correspond to my "vision", I can verify it on my notice, but corresponds to the traditional images with Them and can be thus of use for devotees. That is a "rule" which I have followed in the other montages as far as they have not been made according to a precise vision as for the place of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo.
